What is Homecycle?

HomeCycle specializes in the rental of household appliances. We offer our customers high quality appliances for as little as 14.90€ a month, all included.

Our mission is to offer a sustainable, affordable, and convenient alternative to the traditional purchase model.

The French home appliance market is plagued by cultural obsolescence. It’s easier to buy new than to repair. Indeed, 55% of washing machines break down within five years (80% for some brands!) while 60% of these breakdowns could be avoided with basic maintenance!

A rental model incentivizes HomeCycle to source durable products and to maintain & repair them. As a digital innovator, HomeCycle also puts the emphasis on a brand new customer care experience which goes hand-in-hand with long term profitability and waste reduction.

How can citizens finance a fleet of rental washing machines?

The investors fund a treasury through an NFT Sale, which Homecycle uses to purchase a pool of 200 washing machines.

Then it’s Homecycle turn ! Washing machines are rented out for 6, 12, 18 or 24 monthes, generating income for Homecycle each month.

Finally, based on a royalty model, Homecycle sends 35% of the revenue generated to the treasury, from which any Homecycle NFT holder can claim his share by burning his NFT.

The household appliance rental market

HomeCycle aims to shift part of the major household appliance market (€6 billion p.a.) towards a circular, rental-based approach.

The rental vertical is emerging and set for rapid growth, driven by changing consumer attitudes and needs, where usage increasingly takes precedence over ownership.

This trend is fueled by growing awareness of the environmental impact of over-consumption and the desire to reduce electronic waste.

Appliance rental offers an attractive alternative, enabling users to enjoy the benefits of appliances without buying them, dealing with breakdowns, and managing their end-of-life.

What is their positive impact?

By choosing to rent rather than buy, HomeCycle customers are helping to reduce electronic waste, which represents a real challenge for our environment. Washing machines, for example, have a lifespan of over 20 years, but many appliances are prematurely discarded after only a few years of use (54% of equipment breaks down before its 5th year, and a basic repair costs €150, and that’s when the when the spare parts needed are available).

HomeCycle extends the life of these appliances with a service approach: we select the best equipment (e.g. with our partnership with Brandt, one of the top three durable brands), retain ownership of the fleet, take charge of its maintenance/repair, and extend its lifespan. In this way, we not only reduce the amount of waste generated, but also preserve the resources associated with the manufacture of new equipment (mining and energy resources).

It’s simple: 2million washing machines are sold in France each year, and the same is discarded. Make them last 2x longer, that’s half the waste; 4x longer… 25% of the waste etc.

Who’s behind the project?

HomeCycle was born when Alex and the start-up studio Jumanji, who came together around a common desire: to reduce waste in the world of household appliances with a sustainable and profitable business.

At the head of our team is Alex. With 7 years' experience as a circular economy founder, Alex is a true pioneer in the field of consumer goods rental. His expertise and vision were shaped through a previous venture in clothing rental.

Alongside Alex, we have Val, Max and Yohan. They are the partners of Jumanji Studio, a start-up studio has created and invested in over 7 high-impact businesses in Asia and France since 2019 with one exit under their belt already. Their experience in launching responsible and innovative businesses in the circular economy is a huge asset for HomeCycle !

Roadmap

Subscriptions for the first sale enabled them to deploy the machines almost immediately and start generating income.

For the 2nd sale, it will be the same: they currently have much more demand than they can serve, so the second fundraise will be put to work to generate income and also a lot of impact immediately.

HomeCycle continues to grow convincingly. In particular, they have signed an investment round with SideAngels, France's leading Club Deal company. This investment will give them even greater visibility on their growth and sustainability in the years ahead.
